We were interested to find out when everyone's birthday was, so that we can give people a birthday day on the right day. First, we decided to show the data using a pictograph.

Then, we transferred this data into a bar graph in our Maths books, and wrote several sentences about it, to show our understanding using Maths language such as 'same as', ' more than' and 'less than'. Later, we made pie graphs with Mrs Bear using the same raw data. It was interesting to see the same information displayed on different graphs, and decide which one we liked best.

Different pie graphs of our birthday months. Can you see why they are called 'pie graphs'? |
Which graph do you think is the easiest to read? By year 6, we need to be able to read and make all sorts of different graphs.
